Hello, Military spouse here. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. The median home value here is around $236,300, which is actually reasonable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Anyone in a similar situation?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 7 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Denver about 6 years ago. The main reasons were school and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Summers can be brutally hot
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is tough.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Feel free to reach out with questions..
