Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 11 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from San Francisco about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much manageable but now it's tough.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
