Housing in Corcoran compared to St. Louis

Hi all, With a population of 6,854, Corcoran is a small town. Average temperature is around 45--F, so bundle up in winter. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Nice parks and trails
- Low crime in most areas
- Low taxes

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Poor road conditions
- Far from major airports
- Limited cultural events
- Chain restaurants dominate
Am I wrong here? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in finance. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options
- The healthcare scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
