Not sure if this has been asked before, but Been living here since 2008. Rent is about $638/month for a decent place. Median household income is $41,243, which feels on the lower side for the area. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Am I overthinking this?

Came here for weather and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The nightlife is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in consulting. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 1 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from LA about 10 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a data analyst, 53, moved here 5 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Downtown and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Close to major attractions
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The nightlife situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for retirees. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
