Cost of living reality check -Cornelius

Hey folks, I've been here for 5 years and Household incomes average around $90,071 in Cornelius. Poverty rate is 7.5%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Cornelius sits at 272.9 per 100K. Homes are going for about $419,000 on average. The unemployment rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Pros:
- Friendly people
- Nice parks and trails
- Good schools
- Low taxes

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited public transit
- High property taxes
- Limited cultural events
- Chain restaurants dominate
Let me know your thoughts. Any help is appreciated. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 2 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The public transit is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.
