Curious what people think. My family moved here when I was a kid. You can expect to pay around $1,116 for rent here. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What are your go-to spots? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Chicago it's better than expected.

I work in consulting here and it exceeded my expectations. The job market for my field is pretty good. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Tampa about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is excellent.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Hope this helps!.
