Just moved to Corpus Christi from New York — first impressions

We made the move 3 ago and here are my first impressions:

Cost of living is reasonable for what you get. Rent runs about $1,230/month for a typical apartment. The weather is great — warm most of the year with an average of 74F.

Biggest surprise: Traffic is worse than I thought
Biggest disappointment: The winters are rougher than expected

Overall, I plan to stay long-term.

The job market has been improving lately. Several retail companies moved in recently.

If you can afford it, Lakewood is the best place to live. Period.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.

Check out the Downtown area. Way more affordable and still close to everything.

I've lived in Riverside for 5 years and it's still one of the best decisions I made.

Don't sleep on Highland Park. It's up and coming and still affordable.

Respectfully disagree about the job market. In my experience, it's been pretty safe in my area.

Coming from San Francisco, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are about the same.

Traffic is the worst part honestly. But if you live near work it's fine.

Rent tip: look for places in winter. Prices drop and there's more availability.

I've lived in Oakwood for 3 years and it's decent, has its pros and cons.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Eastside and Oakwood are perfectly safe.
