Affordable areas near Corrales?

I'm a teacher here and With a population of 8,557, Corrales is a small town. Household incomes average around $114,207 in Corrales. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Thoughts? The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

I work in retail here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is better than expected. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely excellent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 55, moved here 2 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in South and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Can feel isolated
3. The weather situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a accountant and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is excellent and there's always something going on.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to San Diego it's surprisingly good.
