I'm retired and Homes are going for about $480,600 on average. Median household income is $63,807, which feels about average for the area. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Am I overthinking this? The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from LA about 11 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Fairview. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Meadowbrook area are solid. Kids love it here.
