First post here. I grew up here but left for a while. The unemployment rate is 4.9%, which is about average. Poverty rate is 10.1%, which is around average. Rent is about $1,342/month for a decent place. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely pretty good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (The Heights) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely solid and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Springfield) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
