Longtime lurker here, Poverty rate is 5.2%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $2,395/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Would love some local perspective. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much stable but now it's hit or miss.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in South for 11 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is decent - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Limited entertainment options. And public transit can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 14 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.
