Why I chose Costa Mesa over bigger cities

Been meaning to ask this. Just moved here 9 months ago and Homes are going for about $1,054,700 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Costa Mesa sits at 273.6 per 100K. Rent is about $2,395/month for a decent place. It's a a mid-size city city with about 111K people. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Thoughts? Any help is appreciated. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Portland about 7 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
