First post here. Been living here since 2010. Crime rate is something to consider -Cotati sits at 523.5 per 100K. Homes are going for about $702,500 on average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Is this normal for Cotati? TIA! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in South area are excellent. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Pine Hills. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The public transit is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Tampa about 8 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is improving.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
