Is Cottage Lake still affordable?

First post here. I'm originally from Raleigh and Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Cottage Lake sits at 70.1 per 100K. With a population of 23,170, Cottage Lake is a small town. Poverty rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. Worth the trade-offs? The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely decent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
