Is public transit usable in Cottonwood Heights?

My family moved here when I was a kid. Median household income is $116,583, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 32,984 people. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Thoughts? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Austin about 13 years ago. The main reasons were weather and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Good luck with whatever you decide..

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Fairview area are decent. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The walkability is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Feel free to reach out with questions..
