Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 13 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Miami about 4 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.
