Job market in Crab Orchard for tech?

Been meaning to ask this. We have two kids and Household incomes average around $59,122 in Crab Orchard. The median home value here is around $208,000, which is actually reasonable. The suburbs are where most families end up. What would you do? Cheers.

Used to live on the Riverside side, now on the Uptown side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in East. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Nashville about 13 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Definitely worth checking out..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 11 years. Moved from Tampa for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is improving - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Property taxes are high. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 5/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The food scene is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..
