Why I chose Crete over bigger cities

Born and raised here. Homes are going for about $203,900 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Crete sits at 648.4 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 7,521 people. Household incomes average around $76,258 in Crete. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Nice parks and trails
- Growing food scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Rising rent prices
- Sprawl everywhere
- Lack of diversity
- Not enough green space
The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Seattle about 6 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
