Anyone else feel this way? My partner and I are It's a a small town city with about 18,643 people. Homes are going for about $566,100 on average. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to.

I work in manufacturing here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is underrated. Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is decent in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Fairview. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 4 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into running, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Baltimore about 4 years ago. The main reasons were weather and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Summers can be brutally hot
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 46, moved here 6 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Cedar Grove and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The traffic situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for couples. challenging vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
