Is Creve Coeur good for remote workers?

First post here. We're a young couple and The median home value here is around $566,100, which is pretty steep. The unemployment rate is 1.5%, which is pretty low. With a population of 18,643, Creve Coeur is a small town. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Would love some local perspective. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely decent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Old Town) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2018 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Baltimore about 14 years ago. The main reasons were school and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Used to live on the East side, now on the Old Town side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

I've lived in Downtown for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The food scene scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 6 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in South. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Chicago about 9 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is improving.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 11 years. Moved from San Diego for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Bugs and humidity in summer. And cost of living can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 6/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
