Crofton housing prices -when will it stop?

First post here. The median home value here is around $507,000, which is pretty steep. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What do you all think? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much manageable but now it's surprisingly good.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Portland about 9 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Raleigh about 8 years ago. The main reasons were school and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is average.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 29, moved here 5 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Highland and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The school system situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for remote workers. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2018 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

The food scene here is pretty good. Tons of great farm-to-table places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.
