Cross Lanes quality of life -am I missing something?
Been meaning to ask this. I work in media and The median home value here is around $144,000, which is actually reasonable. It's a a small town city with about 10,172 people. You can expect to pay around $916 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Anyone in a similar situation? The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is tough.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely decent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Fairview) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2015 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
