Rent vs buy in Crosspointe -what makes sense?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm retired and Household incomes average around $247,708 in Crosspointe. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Poverty rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. Homes are going for about $921,400 on average. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Houston about 12 years ago. The main reasons were weather and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is tough.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is decent in most areas.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Westside for 9 years. Moved from Portland for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is decent - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Can feel isolated. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much reasonable but now it's surprisingly good.
