Moving to Crown Heights -what should I know?

Longtime lurker here, Homes are going for about $321,000 on average. Does this match your experience?

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Riverside area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

Used to live on the Meadowbrook side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 28, moved here 9 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Springfield and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Good schools in most areas
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The traffic situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely solid and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Downtown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Austin about 11 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..
