Best kept secrets of Cullowhee, NC

So, I'm retired and Median household income is $35,076, which feels on the lower side for the area. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Looking forward to hearing from you all. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I've lived in South for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- The cost of living scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like seafood.

No regrets on my end..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely improving and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Old Town) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Uptown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
- The nightlife scene is solid

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
