Alright, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Cupertino sits at 91.1 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Am I overthinking this? Thanks!

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Maple Ridge area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

The food scene here is improving. Tons of great BBQ places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a marketing manager, 58, moved here 5 years ago from Portland. I've lived in The Heights and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Can feel isolated
3. The food scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 13 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Denver about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Good luck with whatever you decide..
