Been meaning to ask this. I'm a 45-year-old firefighter and Crime rate is something to consider -Cupertino sits at 91.1 per 100K. Household incomes average around $231,139 in Cupertino. Homes are going for about $2,000,001 on average. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Am I wrong here? The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Raleigh about 6 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is solid.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2017 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want public transit, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely challenging and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 13 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I work in marketing here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is pretty good. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Springfield for 4 years. Moved from Baltimore for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
education is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Limited entertainment options. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
