Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to New York it's excellent.

I'm a software engineer and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

I've lived in Highland for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
- The nightlife scene is average

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 13 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.
