Hey folks, I'm single, late 20s, and Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely solid and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's improved dramatically in recent years. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from San Francisco about 9 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.
