I'm retired and Crime rate is something to consider -Dallas sits at 190.2 per 100K. With a population of 14,440, Dallas is a small town. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Would love some local perspective. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong job market in several industries
- The weather scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

I'm a lawyer and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is average and there's always something going on.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Miami about 7 years ago. The main reasons were family and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is improving.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Seattle it's hit or miss.
