Couple moving to Dalton from out of state

I'm a 54-year-old accountant and Poverty rate is 13.7%, which is around average. It's a a smaller city city with about 34,402 people. Homes are going for about $203,100 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Dalton sits at 269.0 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Maple Ridge area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Definitely worth checking out..

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in engineering. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
