Is it worth buying in Daly City?

My family moved here when I was a kid. Household incomes average around $119,570 in Daly City. Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $2,523/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Rising rent prices
- Sprawl everywhere
- Far from major airports
Thoughts? Any help is appreciated. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Used to live on the Sunset side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a chef, 53, moved here 6 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Eastside and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The nightlife situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for families. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
