My family moved here when I was a kid. The median home value here is around $1,200,900, which is pretty steep. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What would you do?

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 2 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Meadowbrook side. Completely different vibe. the quality of life is solid.

As someone who grew up here, I love the pace of life here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much competitive but now it's challenging.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
