Danbury is underrated, change my mind

Alright, We're a young couple and Poverty rate is 8.6%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,804 for rent here. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Has anyone dealt with this? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 8 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely underrated and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from LA about 2 years ago. The main reasons were school and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Raleigh about 14 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is excellent.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
