Is Danvers still affordable?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but My partner and I are With a population of 27,924, Danvers is a smaller city. The weather takes some getting used to. Thoughts? Thanks in advance! It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I work in tech here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is excellent. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Boston it's better than expected.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in government. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much affordable but now it's average.

I've lived in Westside for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
- The food scene scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 11 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Not very walkable outside downtown. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 8/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 12 years. Moved from Austin for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Limited entertainment options. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 14 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
