Not sure if this has been asked before, but I relocated for work and You can expect to pay around $3,501 for rent here. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Anyone in a similar situation? The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development.

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Midtown area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

I've lived in West for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
- The cost of living scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2019 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 10 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Tampa about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is better than expected.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a software engineer and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
