Life in Danville as a young professional

Not sure if this has been asked before, but We have two kids and The median home value here is around $76,800, which is actually reasonable. The unemployment rate is 4.6%, which is about average. With a population of 28,663, Danville is a smaller city. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Good schools
- Close to nature
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Sprawl everywhere
- Mosquitoes and humidity
Is this normal for Danville? Thanks for reading. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Moved here from Seattle about 9 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to nightlife but Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor recreation is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Hope this helps!.
