Just moved to Dardenne Prairie, any tips?

Hey, I work in construction and Homes are going for about $392,300 on average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Downtown. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in education. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely solid and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Highland) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 10 years. Moved from Charlotte for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is average - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Nightlife is limited. And school system can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 5/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
