What surprised you most about Darien?

Hi all, The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $109,354 in Darien. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What are your go-to spots? The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

The food scene here is decent. Tons of great Asian places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The pet-friendliness is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Meadowbrook for 3 years. Moved from San Francisco for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
tech is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Meadowbrook schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Urban sprawl is real. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
