Raising a family in Davis -thoughts?
Anyone else feel this way? I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $2,043/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Davis sits at 153.4 per 100K. With a population of 66,801, Davis is a smaller city. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.
Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Friendly people
- Diverse community
Cons:
- Not very walkable
- Limited dining options
- Poor road conditions
- Mosquitoes and humidity
What are your go-to spots? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.
