Best areas to explore in Dayton?

Hello, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Poverty rate is 2.9%, which is pretty low. Is this normal for Dayton?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

No regrets on my end..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much established but now it's improving.

Bought a house here in 2024 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the The Heights side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Downtown for 9 years. Moved from New York for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Limited entertainment options. And dating scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
