OK so I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Dayton sits at 326.6 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,279 for rent here. Household incomes average around $91,221 in Dayton. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. Let me know your thoughts. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Old Town side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Boston it's underrated.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely pretty good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
