Healthcare options in Dayton?

I'm a teacher here and You can expect to pay around $866 for rent here. Median household income is $43,454, which feels on the lower side for the area. Rent is about $866/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Am I overthinking this? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 44, moved here 3 years ago from New York. I've lived in Oak Park and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The school system situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for families. average vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 15 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in West. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Westside for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The cost of living scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to New York it's average.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Minneapolis about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely better than expected and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Sunset) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

Cons that are real:
