Considering Dayton vs Salt Lake City -help me decide
Anyone else feel this way? I've been here for 15 years and Rent is about $1,002/month for a decent place. With a population of 9,121, Dayton is a small town. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Any help is appreciated. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Sunset. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in consulting. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is tough in most areas.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much reasonable but now it's average.

Moved here from Minneapolis about 5 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to community vibe but It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Raleigh about 7 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 4 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Seattle about 2 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.
