Couple moving to Daytona Beach from out of state

Random thought, We're a young couple and Average temperature is around 72--F, so it's warm year-round. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

I work in consulting here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Moved here from Charlotte about 2 years ago. I have mixed feelings honestly. Still getting used to traffic but It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2019 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 25, moved here 1 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The traffic situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for families. solid vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Sunset) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 13 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..
