De Pere quality of life -am I missing something?

The median home value here is around $253,900, which seems about average. With a population of 25,368, De Pere is a smaller city. Homes are going for about $253,900 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -De Pere sits at 79.5 per 100K. Rent is about $981/month for a decent place. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Growing food scene
- Close to nature
- Good internet infrastructure
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Hot summers
- High property taxes
Does this match your experience? The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 15 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in construction. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The cultural scene is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to Dallas it's underrated.
