Hey everyone, I'm a college student here and Average temperature is around 46--F, so expect cold winters. The unemployment rate is 1.2%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Worth the trade-offs?

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Miami it's average.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much developing but now it's pretty good.

Moved here from Minneapolis about 3 years ago. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Still getting used to safety but Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Fairview for 5 years. Moved from Tampa for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Limited shopping options. And job market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 6/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
