Living in De Pere -the reality

Random thought, I'm a remote worker and You can expect to pay around $981 for rent here. The median home value here is around $253,900, which seems about average. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Thoughts? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Greenfield. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in engineering. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The pet-friendliness is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 35, moved here 15 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in Sunset and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The school system situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for remote workers. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
