Things De Pere needs to improve

Anyone else feel this way? Median household income is $80,550, which feels pretty solid for the area. Homes are going for about $253,900 on average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What do you all think? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in construction. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from San Francisco about 7 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 15 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've been here 8 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if dating scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in West for 9 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is solid - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. West schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Summers can be brutally hot. And dating scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Miami about 10 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is excellent in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 30, moved here 4 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Fairview and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Limited shopping options
3. The safety situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for young professionals. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 12 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
