Why I chose De Witt over bigger cities
Been meaning to ask this. Just moved here 13 months ago and The median home value here is around $271,700, which seems about average. With a population of 10,815, De Witt is a small town. You can expect to pay around $1,106 for rent here. Average temperature is around 49--F, so expect cold winters. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.
Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Hot summers
- Lack of diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.
